Geography
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region is located in the western part of Georgia, mainly in the Kolkheti lowland. It is bordered by the Black Sea, north-west of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, north to the Russian Federation, east of Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti regions, and in the south - Guria region.
The territory of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti is 10.8% of the country's territory, which is 7.4 thousand sq. Km. According to this data, it is on second place among regions of Georgia.
The total area of the region is 40.7%, 3.01 thousand sq. Km is occupied by Forests.
Zemo Svaneti is considered to be a ,,hypothesi ceiling” of Georgia. 96% of its area is above sea level at 1000 m and 65.8% - 2000 m above sea level.
Moderate climate, natural beauty and safe fauna allow for the development of winter and summer tourism in the region.
