Alilo, Christmas celebration crocession held in Zugdidi.

Every year people take to the streets in order to take part in the procession called Alilo, and bring gifts for the needy as well as each other. Traditional Georgian Alilo walking procession begun from the Saint Mary Cathedral Church move through Gamsakhurdia Avenue. where the Deputies of the State Representative have met people and gave them sweets.

Alilo walking procession finished Iveria Holy Virgin Mary Cathedral, where Father Malkhaz Chaknturia together with the clergy, has conducted the special Ceremony.

Christmas procession with Zugdidi was organized in other municipalities of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.

Solemn Liturgy was held by Catholicos-patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II, his holiness and beatitude on 7 January. On Christmas Day, Orthodox Christians throughout Georgia take part in a religious procession, called “Alilo”, as part of their Christmas celebrations.
