The International Day of the Disappeared was also celebrated in Zugdidi
The Representatives of the State Representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Administration, International Red Cross Committee, Members of the local government and the families of the missing laid a wreath at the Memorial of disappeared to honor and pay tribute to the missing. Clergy, has conducted the special Ceremony.
The International Day of the Disappeared, on August 30 of each year, is a day created to draw attention to the Disappeared. In Georgia, over 2,400 people are still unaccounted for in connection with the armed conflicts that took place in the 1990s and 2008. About 400 people from the Samegrelo region are considered missing.
To mark the International Day of the Disappeared, has organized by the support of the ICRC, Association "Xenon" and the families of the missing.
In Georgia the International Day of the Missing has officially been celebrated since 2003.
