Meeting with tea producers in Tsalenjikha

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili and local  tea producers discussed  about Georgian Tea Sector challenges and their solutions  during the  meeting taken place in Tsalenjikha.

Solomon Pavliashvili along with Deputy of the State Representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti  Malkhaz Toria observed the tea plantations rehabilitated within the framework of the State rehabilitation program and looked over the operation of new combined tea aggregate run by Agro Engineering Research Service of Agricultural Scientific-Research Center.

Since 2016, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia has been implementing a tea plantation rehabilitation program aimed at making effective use of the tea potential in Georgia, promoting the growth of local tea production, thereby increasing self-sufficiency and increasing export potential. Under the program, both private and state-owned evergreen tea plantations are being rehabilitated to support employment of local population and improve their socio-economic status. According to 2016-2018, 959 ha of tea plantations have been rehabilitated, with a total investment of 2.5 million GEL.

The meeting was attended by the majoritarian MP of Tsalenjikha-Chkhorotsku Mr. Goga Gulordava, Mayor of Tsalenjikha Besik Partsvania, Director of Agricultural Scientific-Research Center Levan Ujmajuridze, Agricultural Scientific Academy of Georgia, Agricultural Logistics and Services Company and Representatives of local information-consulting service.
